Slingshot | VFX Breakdown


What?

  • Slingshot needed high quality VFX

  • Our focus was on:

    • Gameplay VFX

  • Special considerations:

    • High quality in-game VFX

    • Custom build of Unreal Engine

    • Gameplay VFX must be optimized for stereoscopic rendering

    • Estimated development time 12 weeks

Why?

  • Provide Slingshot with AAA quality VFX that would represent the Marvel’s Spider Man IP to standards expected of Disney

  • Provide visual feedback and aesthetically pleasing VFX to the audience attending Disney parks

How?

  • Entire VFX team (GoDemics)Independent development team comprised of industry veterans from AAA games; mostly lead and senior artists with games and film experience (specialize in Unreal Engine)

    • Roster (for Slingshot)

      • VFX artists x5

      • Tech artists x2

    • Technology

      • We used a combination of both Cascade and Niagara for execution of effects with Unreal Engine

      • Blueprint used for implementation of effects

      • Niagara is still very early in its life, so we used the more experienced Cascade system to supplement and fill holes where Niagara failed to achieve production needs

Gameplay VFX

We were tasked with creating stylized gameplay VFX consisting of:

  • Impact effects

  • Explosions 

  • Destructibles and general destruction

  • Energy bursts

  • Fluids and goo

  • Lasers 

  • Magic spells

  • Any and all effects to make actions and gameplay fun for the player!...
